  • Paul Thelen founds Big Fish as a game development studio. Thelen's first game, Critical Mass, releases three months later. Mahjong Towers, the first number one hit, follows in August. Twelve more games appear over the next 14 months
2003
  • Games from external independent developers are distributed on the site
2004
  • Big Fish emerges as a top sales channel for game developers
2005
  • www.bigfishgames.com begins offering A New Game Every Day!®
  • Big Fish German-language portal launches
  • Big Fish Studios, the in-house game development team, releases the first game of the award-winning Mystery Case Files® franchise, Mystery Case Files: Huntsville

  • The Big Fish affiliate program offers a new mechanism to increase value for partners and affiliates

  • Big Fish secures an $83.3 million common stock financing from Balderton Capital, General Catalyst Partners, and Salmon River Capital designed for global growth and expansion
  • The company establishes new worldwide corporate headquarters on Seattle's waterfront

  • Big Fish acquires award-winning Grubby Games studio and establishes Vancouver office
  • European Operation Headquarters are established in Cork, Ireland
  • Ian Hurlock-Jones, former CIO of both Fox Interactive Media and Buy.com, joins as CTO
2010
  • Big Fish launches its first game on the iPad on the day of the device’s release
  • 1 billion downloads milestone reached
